World Open Squash Championship being held in Kuwait

This year’s World Open Squash Championship is being held in Kuwait from 1st - 7th November 2009. The $277k championship - the richest in the history of the men’s professional game - features players from 24 nations, and will take place in Kuwait from 1-7 November 2009.
The $277k championship - the richest in the history of the men’s professional game - features players from 24 nations, and will take place in Kuwait from 1-7 November 2009. The tournament has attracted almost all the world’s top players. The first couple of rounds will be played at the Salmiya Club and then the final three rounds on a dedicated court being built on Green Island.

The championships will bring together all of the world’s leading players from the PSA World Tour. World No.1 Karim Darwish of Egypt will head a star-studded field including compatriots Ramy Ashour and Amr Shabana, Gregory Gaultier and Thierry Lincou from France, Australia’s former World Open Champion David Palmer and England’s British Champion Nick Matthew.
Whilst the opening rounds of the Kuwait Men’s World Open 2009 will be played at the Salmiya Club, one of Kuwait ’s oldest and traditional sports clubs, the championships from the quarter-finals stage will move to the Green Island Resort, one of Kuwait ’s most popular tourist locations, which will provide a spectacular setting for the world’s most important squash championships.
